Creative Careers Episode 4: Mona Golabek
This month’s podcast is a very special one. Our guest is Mona Golabek, an extraordinary pianist and writer, who created and stars in the one-woman show, The Pianist of Willesden Lane. The Pianist of Willesden Lane has toured all over the US (and recently premiered in London) and tells the story of Mona’s mother Lisa, a young pianist whose parents put her on the kindertransport from Vienna to London so that she could be safe during World War II. Recently, it was announced that the BBC will be producing a feature film based on the play.
The Pianist of Willesden Lane is a beautiful, inspiring, and moving show that reaffirms the incredible value and importance of music in very clear and specific terms. But we’ve also been fascinated by Mona’s journey in creating this amazing piece, which was entirely driven by her determination to telling her mother’s story.
